Lady Justice is an ancient and contemporary symbol of our judicial system. Her blindfold is intended to represent impartiality, the idea that justice is "blind." The symbol appears in courtrooms across the United States, but doesn't reflect the reality of our so-called criminal justice system. The covid-19 pandemic has unmasked the depth of injustices that already surrounded us, particularly systemic racism. Ideas for a drastically different society no longer seem so far fetched, but urgently needed.
